The Sounds of Sawnee Concert Band was founded in July of 1993 by the late Helen Brooks, a retired Forsyth High School teacher and supporter of local arts organizations. Helen's vision was to establish a community band to give local musicians an outlet for their talent and to give residents an opportunity to hear fine music within their community. Though Helen Brooks has since passed away, her vision community performance continues to be enjoyed by all.
The band held its inaugural performance in December 1993 in the auditorium of the Sawnee Cultural Arts Center in Cumming, Georgia. Since then it has continued to play for the enjoyment of thousands of people who enjoy the sound of flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trombones, tubas, euphoniums, horns, trumpets and drums playing together in concert.
